(RTTNews) – Monday morning, diversified industrial manufacturer ITT Corp. (ITT | charts | news | PowerRating) revealed the appointment of Denise Ramos as Chief Financial Officer, effective July 1, 2007. Ramos, currently chief financial officer of Furniture Brands International Inc. (FBN | charts | news | PowerRating), replaces George Minnich, 57, who is retiring from the company. Minnich will however, remain at the company through the end of July to ensure a smooth transition. Separately, Furniture Brands said that its Chairman and CEO, W.G. Holliman, accepted the resignation of Denise Ramos as Senior Vice President and CFO of the company.
The White Plains, New York-based ITT noted that Ramos, 50, brings broad industry and functional experience to the position, with almost thirty years of financial assignments at several industry-leading companies. The company said that as CFO of Furniture Brands International, Ramos was instrumental in designing corporate strategy and enhancing the planning process for the $2.4 billion manufacturer, marketer and retailer of residential furniture. “Import Export” plays dirty on both sides of equation
by admin on May.27, 2007, under Export Import
CANNES, France (Hollywood Reporter) – Ulrich Seidl’s “Import Export” is a tawdry little film ostensibly about the cultural clashes resulting from the proximity of former Soviet states like the Ukraine to Western nations like Austria. There is a film to be made on the topic, but this isn’t it.
With an aimless script inadequately filmed, the picture is unlikely to make it much farther than its inexplicable inclusion in the Cannes Film Festival’s competition.
As the title suggests, there are twin stories in the film, with a Ukrainian nurse seeking unskilled employment in Austria while a pair of witless Austrian yobs end up in the Ukraine trying to sell an outdated gumball machine.
If Sheriff Bell was upset with the state of Texas in the new Coen brothers film, he should see (continue reading…)
Crude oil lubricates export revenue growth
by admin on May.27, 2007, under Export Import
Crude oil exports raked in over US $3 billion during the first five months of the year, recording the largest single industry export revenues in the country, according to the General Statistics Office.
In total Vietnam earned over US $18 billion in export turnover, a year-on-year increase of 18.4% with high values coming in from garments and textiles, US $2.7 billion, and footwear, seafood and coffee, that all accounted for over US $1 billion each.
Highflying exports of wood products surged to US $947 million and computer and electronic components also spiked at US $744 million. Pundits forecast both of these industries to earn over US $1 billion in the next few months.
Rice at US $610 million and rubber, US $415 million, rounded out the top earners. (continue reading…)
‘Import/Export’ portrays new Europe’s darker side

Cannes, May 22 (DPA) Austrian director Ulrich Seidl’s ‘Import/Export’, premiered at the Cannes film festival, tells a hard-hitting story about those who have not necessarily emerged as winners from the changes unleashed in Europe since the fall of communism.
Unable to make a living as a nurse in her home country of Ukraine, Olga – played by Ekaterina Rak from the former Yugoslavia – leaves her child with her mother and shifts to the West in the hope of a better life.
She ends up working as a cleaner in a geriatric ward in Austria, as is the case with many other immigrants, taking a job that the Austrians don’t want. (continue reading…)
Interested in import or export business?
by admin on May.27, 2007, under Export Import
Area manufacturers and distributors may not know it yet, but there is a world full of potential customers waiting for a chance to buy American-made products, a globe full of overseas businesses looking for Southcoast partners.
It is the mission of Toby Stapleton, executive director of the International Trade Assistance Center in Fall River, to spread the word. He was in Westport Thursday morning doing just that, explaining the non-profit ITAC’s success in helping more than 165 Southeastern Massachusetts companies do business overseas last year to the Westport Business to Business group.
Opportunities for international business have grown tremendously in the last few years, and many small manufacturers from Attleboro to Fall River, from Brockton to New Bedford, are taking advantage of the overseas interest, Mr. Stapleton said. (continue reading…)
