Cargo transportation in Azerbaijan rose by 31.6%

For Jan-Apr 2008 cargo carriages in Azerbaijan by all transport means grew by 13.3% up to 56.1 million tons and cargo turnover increased by 31.6% against the 2007 relevant period.
The State Statistics Committee informs that cargo was transported mainly by road (43.6%), via pipelines 34% (including 20.8% via Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan pipe n.a. Heydar Aliyev and 1.7% via South Caucasus pipe), by rail 15.9% and by sea 6.5%. Up to 67.9% of cargo was carried by private transport.
For the reported period it was transported 383.6 million passengers that is by 7.1% more against the 2007 same period. 81.8% of passenger carriages were carried out by non-state sector. Passenger carriages by road reached 81.9% and by the underground 17.5%.
For the reported period transportation by rail made 8.9 million tons of cargo that by 6.5% less versus the 2007 same term figure. Daily wagon loading reduced 10.7% and unloading 3.8%.
For Jan-Apr 2008 it was shipped 3.6 million tons of transit cargo that is by 15% more against the 2007 same term. Oil made 63.8% and dry cargo 36.2%. Cargo turnover in this type of transport decreased by 5.4% and totaled 1.9 bn tons-km of cargo.
By road it was carried 24.4 million tons of cargo and 314 million passengers that is by 6.3% and 5.4% more respectively versus the 2007 same term figures. Cargo transportation by buses made 96.7% and automobiles 3.3%.
By air it was transported for Jan-Apr 2008, 374.5 million passengers that is by 8.1% less versus the 2007 same period. 93.4% of passengers were carried by planes of state airlines and 6.6% by planes of private ones.
Transportation via domestic oil pipelines reached 15.6 million tons. It is 32.2% more versus the 2007 relevant period. Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan pipe carried 11.7 million tons of oil for Jan-Apr 2008.
Domestic gas main pipelines carried 73.7% more. 27.8% of that volume or 1.5 bn. cu.m. of gas was exported via Baku-Tbilisi-Erzurum gas pipeline. Total volume of transported gas for Jan-Apr 2008 made 3.5 million cu.m.
